Christopher Elkins, CPNP
Practitioner Elkins was born and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He is a board certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner by the PNCB (Pediatric Nursing Certification Board). He sees patients from birth to 21 years of age.
Christopher completed his undergraduate Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. After graduating in 2007, Practitioner Elkins began working as a nurse at the UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, in Pediatric Hematology Oncology, where he has worked for the past nine years. He is CPON (Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse) certified, as well as PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certified.
Christopher attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed his Masters Degree as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care in 2016. Although getting his degree in primary care, working with the acute pediatric cancer population for over 9 years has given Christopher the insight to helping families with children with chronic health issues. Christopher’s philosophy on nurturing the pediatric population is that the more you know about a families dynamics, history, and preferences, the more in tune you can be with the child’s health. Every family has a unique balance of how they function best, so involving the entire family in a child’s care is beneficial. Christopher excels at educating parents and children in a way that is unique for each family. Christopher’s priority is engaging children in a fun way, so as their health care provider, he becomes someone they trust.
While attending East Carolina University for his undergraduate nursing degree, Chris met his wife Erin. She has worked at UNC Hospital for ten years, previously as a neurology nurse; however, currently her passion is oncology nursing. Together Erin and Christopher have an 8-year-old son, Everett and are expecting another baby boy in October 2017. Christopher and his family enjoy traveling to the mountains of North Carolina in the fall; enjoy the beaches during the summer, and concert-going all year round.
